Pedal and pedal some more

Take the ferry to Holland, see some friends, ride along some bicycle only roads. One thing (or path) leads to another, opps in Germany, opps in Belgium. So I keep on going, a month in Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg. Buy some maps and keep going, have a little tent and find some little campsites, eat more than a little food.

I like France, so I spend the next two months travelling by bike. Small towns, learning basic French and eating cheese, bread and couscous. I arrive at the Alps, ride up to 2000m watching skiers around me and snow blocked roads. A few days later thirty days of cycling, camping and cold food starts to take its toll. First train taken as the interior of the Alps isn't bike friendly and I'm mentally and physically exhausted. Visit a friend I met in Dargaville, NZ who lives near and recouperate for five or so days. Off again. Weeks of 35 degree heat, cloudless days, rivers, swimming, canoeing and eating follow. Pedalling. Eating. Sleeping. Not sure how many kilometers I've rode now.

A new bike wheel and repairs totalling under 120 Euros for three months travel expenses. No carbon emissions, no stuffy air-con, no screaming babies or chatting people sitting around me. Able to stop and take a photo, drop your bike and dive into a river then turning around to have a second look at all those things you missed at 80km a hour...

Have a go at touring by cycle.
